Powering Arduino from battery

People who just starting to work with an Arduino, often ask how long can it work on the battery power.
Typically, an Arduino Uno draws about 40-50 mA.
But what about workloads?

Let’s do an experiment.

I completed RadioShack® 3D LED Cube Hobby Kit, put it on an Arduino Uno and connect it to 9V 200mAh battery.

After an 1 hour 50 minutes light began to disappear at 0.1 seconds.
After next 5 minutes light began to appear to 0.1 seconds.
Cube stopped working completely in an hour.

200mAh / 2 h = 100 mA
Arduino Uno with 3D LED Cube takes 100 mA
